A while ago I stumbled upon a post by Lara Casey that put out the challenge to unplug from Social Media every weekend. When I first read it I though “Great idea…just not for me!”. Over the last few months I’ve been learning A LOT about living with intention. Focusing on what is important in life and what matters the most. The idea of unplugging and focusing on what truly matters kept coming to mind.
This past weekend I took the leap and officially signed off social media. I moved my Instagram to the last page of my phone, I signed off Facebook and I didn’t pin a thing. And guess what…the world didn’t collapse.
Instead of posting on friends Facebook walls, I sat on my porch and scribbled out some REAL mail. Instead of looking at healthy and delicious recipes all morning I got up and made Morning Glory muffins (I’ll share the recipe soon!). I spent time with my family going to see a play, trying to have a picnic at the beach (and then going antiquing and out for mexican when we were rained out) and celebrating my friend’s 30th birthday. I filled my weekend with REAL LIFE.
It can be so easy to fall into the trap of comparison in the world of social media. Turning it off for a weekend helped me to focus on the blessings I have already and not what I think I’m missing out on.
Who’s with me to unplug this weekend?
