Have you ever stopped and REALLY thought about how your words impact the people around you? Have you considered that the words you speak can bring joy to those God has placed into your life?
Conversations with friends, family and everyone you encounter can bring JOY or cause heart-ache.
This past summer a friend and I wanted some regular “girl-time”. We decided to do a a light summer book study and invite other women to join us. The book that was chosen was “30 Days to Taming your Tongue”. Needless to say, it was not a light book study but one that convicted me and helped me realize how much I need God’s grace. Over iced lemonade and homemade treats we shared the struggles that come with taming our tongues. We encouraged each other to stop using our words to build ourselves up, but to speak life and love into the world.
Living a GraceFull Life is full of challenges. Days when words that are not true, right, or lovely escape from our lips. Days when I instantly regret the words that just came out of my mouth. That is exactly when we need His grace. When we slow down, take a breath before speaking and honor him with our tongue.
My prayer today is that when I sit down with a friend my words would bring joy to their heart. Over a cup of tea we would share our hearts and be strengthened to spread beauty and truth to all we meet.
10 ways to speak life and truth with your tongue:
Give a sincere compliment.
Be quick to say I’m Sorry.
Defend someone against negative criticism.
Speak of God’s goodness.
Tell the truth.
