A new day is dawning and already my head spins with thoughts of tomorrow. Never ending to-do lists, big dreams, little worries, & “5 year plans” are the joy-stealers and peace-robbers of today.
We focus so much on the future. Best selling books and magazine articles tell of “10 steps you can do TODAY for a better life/job/marriage tomorrow” We make goals, plans, hope and dream about what the future holds.
I’m a planner & dreamer. I love to think about what tomorrow may hold and how I can make it happen. Intentional plans and goals can be GOOD. Intentional plans and goals are not the problem.
The problem is that when we focus intensely on tomorrow we miss out on the gift of today.
It may sound cliche but life IS short (James 4:14). Each day is a treasured and beautiful gift we are given for a purpose. A purpose that is beyond our imagination and beyond our control.
Each morning, when the sun rises we are given a choice. A choice to put aside worry and seek first HIS Kingdom. A choice to serve Him, love His precious children, fight for His causes and speak His truth.
It’s not easy to hold our dreams and plans with open hands and hearts. But HIS grace is sufficient for us. (2 Corinthians 12:9) God’s power is revealed in our weakness. Surrender is difficult but remember that His grace is able to accomplish within us what we can not do ourselves.
Gratitude shifts our focus from the desires of tomorrow to the gifts of today. Let’s choose to be thankful for THIS day-whatever it may bring.
Today I’m choosing to be thankful for the gifts I’ve been given HERE and NOW. I’m choosing to be grateful for my single season. I’m choosing to be thankful for my cottage. I’m choosing to take joy in the friends and family I have. I’m choosing to surrender my 10 year/5 year/1 year/6 months dreams, plans and goals to the one who holds each and everyone of my tomorrows.
