A few weeks ago I sent out a simple invitation to my friends inviting them to an autumn dinner party. Fall is my favorite time of year. I resisted the urge to plan an elaborate, pinterest inspired harvest dinner and instead kept the food, decor and details simple yet thoughtful. I wanted the focus to be on friendship, food, and laughter!

As we gathered around the table the conversation flowed from chit chat to what was really going on in our lives. I realized that community, true community, happens around the table. There is something simple, yet beautiful that happens when we gathe, give thanks to God and share a meal together.
In just a few weeks the holiday madness will be upon us. This year instead of rushing from one thing to the next, I desire to carve out time and break bread with those in my life. Family dinners gathered around the table to celebrate nothing more than the gift of today, inviting new and treasured friends over for a bowl of chili and heart to heart conversation, and welcoming those who may not have family to be apart of mine-if only for an evening.
Let’s focus on the true heart of hospitality this season, opening your heart and home to those who need it most.
