This holiday season instead of rushing into Christmas, I’m choosing to savor THIS season of thanks. Thanksgiving is time for family, blessings and pecan pie. I don’t want to focus so much on what lies ahead that I miss the gifts of today.
This abundant season of thanks points us right back to the Giver. The One who blesses us with laughter, freshly fallen snow, unexpected visits from friends, family that loves unconditionally, and pumpkin spice lattes.
As I reflect on the importance of Thanksgiving, I’m reminded that there is another season I’m called to be thankful for.
I’m called to be thankful in my season of singleness. To choose gratitude over comparison. Thankful for the time to share my heart with friends over a cup of tea and pumpkin croissants. Thankful for the joys, experiences, struggles and moments that are unique to THIS season.
It can be SO easy to compare your journey with others, especially during the holiday season. Easy to look at someone’s “perfect” christmas decorations, family christmas card or lavish party with an ungrateful heart.
In these moments we are called to not only be thankful, but to rejoice in ALL circumstance. Whatever season YOU are in, dig deep and find a treasure of God’s grace. Gratitude DOES change everything. Gratitude shifts our perspective to His abundant blessings.
Gratitude is what happens when you are having coffee with your newly engaged friend and instead of wondering when it will YOUR time, choosing to celebrate the gift of love with your friend. Gratitude is choosing to laugh and savor the not-quite-perfect cookies made by little hands, instead of wishing your kitchen wasn’t such a mess. Gratitude is choosing to find the beauty in today. Gratitude is choosing to squeeze the joy out of every moment.
What are you thankful for today?
